Telephone consultations. Training on legal issues. Publications on court rulings and changes in the law. These are some of the methods Legal Services uses to assist board members, superintendents, board attorneys and administrators.

Services

  • Daily consultation with school board members, superintendents, board attorneys and administrators on legal issues as well as KSBA Policy staff on policy development
  • Board member and district personnel in-service training
  • Special Education Service including consultation with the KSBA insurance programs and its panel of defense attorneys
  • Two annual meetings of the Council of School Board Attorneys to update legal issues
  • Attorney General Opinion Service
  • Monthly IDEA, Section 504 and FERPA newsletter addressing legal issues
  • Quarterly Council Update overing legal aspects of education
  • Kentucky Student Discipline Desk Reference, updated annually
  • Assist Governmental Relations staff through bill reviews, drafting and consultations during legislative sessions
  • Specialty notices and publications, for example, KSBA prepared and distributed to all superintendents a publication to help districts review their practices and comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act’s wage and hour standards.
  • Updates on special education and 504 procedures to reflect changes in law.
